Esel Panlaqui, founder of EmpowerHer Diversity Hub, has over 20 years of experience in the non-profit and grassroots sectors. She has led innovative programs to advance equity for diverse women and gender-diverse communities. Through her work with organizations like The Neighbourhood Organization, Peel Newcomer Strategy Group, and various other non-profits, she has developed strong expertise in project management, stakeholder engagement, community partnerships, resource development, grant writing, and program evaluation.

Before coming to Canada in 2005, Esel worked at the UP Centre for Women’s Studies at the University of the Philippines. She also completed coursework for the Women and Development Diploma at the UP College of Social Work and Community Development, University of the Philippines.

Her work on gender equity, social justice, and community empowerment has been published in academic journals in both Canada and the Philippines, including Canadian Diversity Studies and the Review of Women’s Studies. She has also provided consulting support to various organizations, including the Canadian Women’s Foundation.

In recognition of her contributions to advancing equity and immigrant women’s rights, Esel received the Woman Abuse Council of Toronto (WomanACT) Immigrant and Refugee Women’s Advocate Award in 2017.

In addition to her advocacy work, Esel is also a part-time real estate agent with Royal LePage West Realty Group, helping individuals and families make informed decisions through transparent and client-centered service.
