Community Justice Initiative: Identifying Legal Needs, Resources and Support for Vulnerable and Underserved Populations (Migrant Workers, International Students, Women and Gender-diverse Individuals)
The Community Justice Initiative, a project of EmpowerHer Diversity Hub and funded by The Law Foundation of Ontario, focuses on identifying the legal needs and available resources for migrant workers, international students, women, and gender-diverse individuals in Ontario. The initiative seeks to understand the challenges these communities face and develop a community resource map to improve their access to legal information and services.
Project Objectives
- Identify Legal Needs: Conduct surveys, focus groups, and interviews with community members to gain insights into their specific legal challenges.
- Develop a Community Resource Map: Create an inventory of existing legal and support services to connect underserved populations with available resources.
Activities
- Engage 100 migrant workers, 100 international students, and 100 women and gender-diverse individuals through surveys, focus groups, and interviews.
- Conduct Community Resource Mapping to consolidate information on legal and other support services
Expected Outcomes
- A comprehensive report detailing the legal needs of the target communities.
- A Community Resource Map to improve awareness and accessibility of legal services.
- Enhanced community engagement by involving participants directly in the research process.
By identifying gaps in access to legal support and developing practical, community-driven resources, the Community Justice Initiative aims to create more equitable outcomes and empower underserved populations in Ontario.
